About the Photo:
Inspired by Cloud Strife's Omnislash animation from FFVII Advent and Ragnarok Online's Gunslinger skill -- Desperado, I came up with this set.

~yefa suggested lots of poses she got from the net but I told her I want a different output for this one. So there, it end up like this~

This is the first time I tried adding mystery stuff on my shot -- since I'm watching Hyouka too much

This is a "Slow Shutter Action Shot"

***no photo manipulation here -- because I don't know how and I suck when I'm doing one.

Yeah I called it Slow-shutter because its below 1/60 (regular bulb's frequency -- 60Hz). I don't really know what's the basis of others when they call their setup Slow-shutter but for me, 1/25 is already a slow one. And taking action shot, I usually set my shutter to 1/100+++.

Anyway going back, I set my shutter that way to absorb colors and light -- since its already dark and my aperture is in the lowest value already. My camera body is Canon 1000D and I don't have that "vivid" settings like Nikon Entry Level camera does.

About the angle, I took the low-angle approach with an UWA lens to make ~yefa looks taller/longer (I really love the distortion of this lens )

Light setup, this was a three-light setup:
- orange gel at my left
- blue gel at my right
- shoot-through umbrella as main light

Special Thanks to =KiraHokuten and ~Dhenz07 for the light assistance, ~Mimim0n for making this awesome costume and assisting ~yefa as always, *gelaii-chan for photobombing, and ~jrjs for the Gangnam Style BG Music. :D

Preparation, Production and the Shoot:
This is my first organized, full production shoot for this year -- It means that I supervised everything from planning, wig selection, how the costume be made, location hunting, set, down to the post-processing of the photo.

This shoot kept me stressed-up the whole month of August because of the cost (sponsoring the wig, details of costume, props, etc for my Commander ~yefa, and buying a new lens for that specific shot that I wanted (UWA) -- which I found useless in the end), planning, production (props making like extra mags and bullets -- which I was able to complete few hours before the shoot), and location hunting (almost cancelled the shoot because the location we are suppose to shoot is still on "for-approval status").

With props, costume, wig, gears prepared, still, some DARK AURA managed to sabotage the shoot. A lot of delays happened during the day of the shoot. I am supposed to get the dark blue sky of 6-7pm but yeah -- Congratulations to that DARK AURA we end up shooting at 10:30PM for only 30mins. XD

Imagine shooting without seeing the frame. No flashlights or anything -- its really dark XD

**still with very few shots, I really love the output.

1. Yes, you would get more light if there were enough light in the area, but you mentioned you couldn't see through the viewfinder? Probably not enough light to affect the photo!

2. You could have gotten more from the sky, but you would need a tripod and a shutter speed of more than a few seconds.. would add more complications to the timing of the shot :P

3. How were your guns suspended? Were they dropped/thrown? It really depends how you light them, if you used constant lights then you would need a pretty fast shutter speed to stop them blurring (maybe around 1/400 or faster)
If you were using flash with no ambient (like your photo here), then the flash will "freeze" them in to the frame when it fires, so the shutter speed won't matter and they can be moving pretty fast and still not blur.

I hope this helps?

I love your photos btw!

what would help spark your "slow motion" purpose, is if that magazines/guns in the air were a bit blurred.. para in-motion talaga! :D

err.. hindi pumasok yung reply ko kagabi~
Anyway, this shot/setup was inspired by Cloud Strife's Omnislash animation from FFVII Advent~ Yung na naghi-hiwalay yung sword nya, surrounding the enemy then he has to grab it one by one and slash the enemy. So I tried applying it here wherein Miku somehow uses time stopper grabbing the gun in mid air instead of reloading. XD

And yeah, normally it should be blurred at my current setting (1/25) but yeah, that's the mystery I added to the shot. :D
